Sports carnival 2010.

Personally, i think its better than last year. Wet weather programme was carried out immediately when the skies didnt hold it back 3 hours longer. My legs lasted longer and didnt start hurting as bad till eleven. Still loads of screaming but from what i hear, the students didnt know about them.

Major Screw ups: 0
teacher's involvement in carrying out sports carnival: 0
Students having issues with all the usual: 1.
Major injury: 1
Break downs: 3
Times i flared up: 3

Honestly, these were alot better than last year. Sure there was rain, but we knew what to do. Prayers in the morning was answered when the skies were cloudy and there was a sure sign of rain and then later, the skies cleared. Opening ceremony was very well done. Core games was well done. Transition was well done. Mass game was pretty well done. Closing ceremony was well done. So what do i ask for now? Nothing much other than riversidians to stop complaining and start appreciating.

Sports carnival took 5 months of planning and took away precious hours of sleep. On top of just planning on holidays, we were involved in coordination and training even during the common test periods. The maincomms missed about 40 lunches and had an average of 2 meals a day for the past 5 months. 83% of the Maincomms were new and have no idea what sports carnival planning was about before they joined SCMC 2010 and were trained from Scratch. The maincomms went through interviews but we did not pick th top people. We strongly believe in polishing unpolished gems. And what about the fact that sports carnival is planned and conducted by teachers in other schools? Not enough? Then lets talk figures, sports carnival 2010 took $2800++ and we erected tentages even though we could have just asked students to sit at the corridoors.

Every year, i hear complains about lousy referees. Do you know that these referees sacrificed their saturdays while most of you were sleeping in? Do you know that we had to sieve through 187 referees forms to pick out these referees? And on top of that, if students had the discipline to abide every rule of the game, is there a need for referees? I'll dare say that 98% of students did not read the rules and regulations before sports carnival. On 11th march, i still had students asking me what was Frisla. Maincomms are not R&R dictionaries. Students have the responsibilities to read the R&R and read the schedule.

I hear students telling me the maincomm sucks. So you think you can do better? Then please sign up for the interview next year instead of sitting around saying that you can just wear our shirt and conduct a better sports carnival. If your team had an walkover, do not blame the maincomms. You should have read the schedule we gave out an month ago and followed it. Instead of whinning and raising your fist, ask yourself if you did the things you were supposed to do. Your team had to play handicap? Then ask yourself why your team players are not in the proper attire or are absent.

SCMC 2010 members stayed overnight on 11th march. Upon hearing that, students will say "Wahlau, so good..". But we did not stay overnight to have fun. We missed our lunch and some of us did not even have recess. But did we complain? No. We were on our knees under the 3 pm sun, taping the courts and conducting the opening ceremony rehearsal that somebody actually said "Chey" to. We tied every red and white tape and raffia string to the poles used for frisla and handball. We moved every single table, chairs, whiteboard that you see at the indoor sports hall, hall, parade square, field, basketball court, quadrangle. The badminton pole you see at the frisla court, we moved in from the hall to the quadrangle by the stairs. We put up with the sacarstic remarks from Auntie Mary and you guys. We had dinner only after we completed taping the courts and moving the things. We had opening ceremony rehearsal at 11.30 and we showered at 1.30 a.m. We slept at 2.30 and woke up at 4.40. That what we had to do while you guys went home, showered and sleep. Some of us still had homework to do and files to complete. Did we complain? No. Then why are you guys complaining? Its so unjustified. But are we complaining? No! You were not even the one who had to put up with the screaming by the t-i-c. Not the one who had to put up with the pain in your leg and continue to run to the teacher who is demanding you to go to a venue three blocks away. So who are you to complain?

Every single maincomm sacrificed 5 months to help out. On 12th march, there was at least 8 maincomms who were injured. Jia yin sprained her leg during a softball match on 11th march, a badminton pole fell on Preethika on 11th march and she hurt her leg, Aisha had a ankle injury, hazel had an knee injury, Marcus had muscle strains, Shanjif had 6 muscle cramps, Chelsea hurt her eye during the course of duty and had a sprained ankle, Michelle is still recovering from an torn ligament and i was having a flu and my ankle was hurting. But when i asked if anyone was not feeling well or injured, none of them said they were. Why? Because they didnt want to miss out on helping or executing SC 2010. Ms milhan asked us if we wanted to cancel SC2010 and we said no. Why? Not because we didnt want to waste our efforts, but everybody replied saying we didnt want to disappoint the students. Every single one of us.

We are not even asking you to say thank you. We are just asking for you to stop complaining. If even the principal appreciates our efforts, why dont you?

Thank you to all referees who helped out.

Thank you to Amir, Khairul, Syariff for helping out for final prep. Sorry to those names i left out!~
